Summary: Lasts long, strong and sturdy. Awesome
Comment: I purchased this when i first moved to philly for school cuz i had a small room with very small closet space. That was on june, 24 2005. i used it in that apartment, moved downtown and had more closet space in my new apartment but i liked using this so i coninued using this and never got a dresser. Now, i've graduated from college, got a job that required me to move to a city not far from PA and i brought it to my new apartment in baltimore and i was able to hang it up again. i've more closet space than i've ever had but i'm so used to using this i just have to hang it up. I'm surprised it's still storng and sturdy,no tears, no rips and i haven't even washed it before cuz it isn't dirty. This is all i used and i never purchased a dresser or chest of drawers. I have more clothes now and more closet space in my new place and i need a 2nd one.
My roommate saw mine and got the one ikea has and i realized that one isn't sturdy. It doesn't have the strong base like this one so the clothes sink to the next one. I store my jeans pants in this (bottom drawer), capris in the shelf on top of that, t-shirts, blouses, skirts and it holds a lot of clothing.
Anyhoo, I just check my amazon orders and i realized i purchased it back then for 14.99. The price is now $19.99. what the heck, amazon?! So, i'm going to watch to see if it they put it on sale.
I've been shopping at amazon since my sophmore year in college and the secret is if item isn't at price you want, just keep stalking the item page till they put it on sale. The only exception is the calphalon international griddle i purchased for 9.99 3 years ago and the cheapest i've seen it since then is somewhere between $19.99 to $29.99
I'll be watching but if it stays at 19.99, i'll still get it cuz its soo worth it. I think my biggest problem now is do i get the one with the shoe rack in the bottom or do i just get this same one again...I'll figure it out.
Don't buy anything cheaper that can't support your clothing. This thing has been my "dresser" and i really stuff it with LOTS of clothes. I mean i stuff about 10pairs of size 1 jeans in the bottom shelf, and a whole lot of stuff on the remainaing top 5 shelves and it's hanged for over 3 years, continuously, it came of for one day when i moved in 06, and came off for a couple hours today when i moved and it's still standing.
if it wasn't good, i wouldn't come back today looking to buy a second pair. Maybe i'll buy two more cuz i really have 2 big closets here and i don't feel like buying a dresser.

I bought one of these in Dec. 2004 and it is exactly as pictured with canvas shelves. When you feel the shelves, you can tell that they have hardboard sandwiched between them making a durable surface that does not sag. I just purchased a second one and opened it today (May 2008) and while the top is still canvas-covered hardboard, the shelves are now plastic.
I came back here to see if I'd accidentally ordered a cheaper version, but the model number is the same. Whitney has indeed changed their design, and to be fair I see now that if you scroll all the way down to the Product Description under the Amazon.com review, it's been updated to "6 Shelf, Sweater Organizer With Plastic Shelves...". But keeping the original picture and Product Features, which only show and mention canvas, is highly misleading.
I tested out the plastic shelves and they do not compare to the original that I own which is still going strong (no sagging). Plus of course, it doesn't match. I will be returning this. Hope this helps others make a more informed buying decision.

Comment: The shelves are nice enough and very useful if you need some extra space and have a closet to hang them in, but there are a few simple problems. First, they are small, 12"x12" is just not much space, it works well enough, but don't expect them to store nearly as much as a typical dresser. Second, the 'floors' of the shelves are made of flexible thin plastic. This makes them unsuitable for things that have significant heft, say 3-4 pairs of jeans.
I wish they had used some kind of particleboard for each shelf (like they did with the top of the top shelf, and then made the shelves a little bit wider.
