Summary: We get it -- breastfeeding is best -- can we get to the recipes now?
Comment: The book's ok -- the recipes ok. But what began to drive me crazy is the constant drumbeat of 'breast is best'. No kidding, I know that. I have a baby and I've heard all of it.

I'm so OVER all of it and ready to begin introducing my little one to solid food. Let's just stick with that, ok? That's the title of the book, right?

Summary: Ok book
Comment: A little disappointing. The recipes are not as simple as I thought. Some are not purees. I will use ideas from the book but probably won't do the recipes as described.

Summary: Excellent Recipes - My Son Loves It All
Comment: My sisters each have 2 children and none of them LIKE to eat healthy food. I have witnessed more meal time battles than I ever cared to. So when my husband and I had our first child this year, I was determined that we'd do whatever we could to avoid raising a picky eater.

My son is almost six months old (doctor said it was okay to start him on solid food at 4 1/2 months). He has tried everything in the age appropriate section and most of the items in the 6-7 months section and he loves them! I can't shovel the food in fast enough. He even loves the fish and vegetables with cheese sauce.

Note to people who are concerned about the cow's milk: Ms. Karmel does state that cow's milk by itself should not be given to an infant, but that it has been shown to be okay to use in cooking other foods. If you're still leery about that, keep in mind that most of the recipes don't use cow's milk.

I always try everything myself before I give it to my son and the recipes actually taste really good. In fact, we all love Cinderella's pumpkin (I've made it as a soup).

I'm really excited to get to try the recipes for older kids too - they look fun and healthy. My favorite part is that I'm not trying to "sneak" anything into my baby's food. He's just learning that healthy food actually tastes good.

Thank you Annabel Karmel!

Editorial Reviews:

Babies grow more rapidly in their first year than at any other time in their lives, so how you feed your newborn will be one of the most important decisions you make for your new baby.

Making your own baby food is not only more economical than buying commercial brands, it also assures that your child consumes only the freshest, top-quality ingredients. British television personality and children's nutrition expert Annabel Karmel's essential collection of best-ever purees grants new parents their wish: one hundred quick and easy recipes that will make for a healthy and happy baby. From first tastes and weaning, right through to meals for older babies, all the recipes are suitable for children aged six months and older. And with all these fruit and vegetable favorites, and innovative fish, meat, and chicken purees, the dishes are so tasty you will want to eat them yourself!

In addition to easy and delicious recipes, Top 100 Baby Purees also includes information on:

  • Weaning your baby and transitioning to solid foods
  • Food allergies
