Customer Rating: Summary: Absolutely Heartwarming Comment: This is a book i would recommend to anyone, but especially to those who love animals. This book made me cry several times, as well as laugh.
Customer Rating: Summary: Marley & Me: Life and Love with the World's Worst Dog Comment: I must say taking care of impulsive dogs like Marley demands patience and hard work. So I can appreciate the Grogan's dedicated care of this hyperactive dog, Marley, who had the typical traits of ADHD. Of course, dealing with ADHD people is so hard. When it comes to dogs with ADHD, that's even more difficult. He wasn't able to do as the owner told him to, made a lot of mischief, and so on - nothing was so annoying as these for most of dog owners. I might have flown off the handle if I had found his frequent misbehaviors. - "Next time you do this, you are going to the slaughterhouse! Get it?" I just wonder whether it meant animal abuse...
However, I felt Marley was John's vivid reminder when I found he received lots of e-mails after Marley's death. I guess that was mainly because most of those who e-mailed him said encouragingly that they had the same or worse experience with their misbehaved dogs. Perhaps John Grogan saw through Marley's pros as well as cons of the dog's rambunctiousness.
Anyway, without unconditional love with Marley, the hyperactive and rambunctious dog, John Grogan would never have written Marley & Me: Life and Love with the World's Worst Dog, I'd say.
Customer Rating: Summary: Easy to read, enjoyable, and familiar to many dog owners Comment: After having just reviewed John Grogan's latest book, The Longest Trip Home: A Memoir, I thought it would be a good idea to go back and write a review for Marley & Me.
Grogan's story of his high-spirited dog that turned their lives upside down, but stole their hearts as well, is a well-written and enjoyable book to read. His writing style is such that you feel like he's someone you know that's telling you about this hyperactive and exuberant dog of his. As someone is not able to read entire books in one sitting, I like the fact that you can put the book down and pick it back up again later without feeling like you have re-read the previous chapter to get back up to speed.
As a dog owner, I can relate to the sometimes unpredictable behavior of man's best friend, but I can also relate to how firmly Marley made himself part of their lives. No matter what kind of trouble they get themselves into, their unconditional love and that "dog face" that is a classic lab trait has gotten our dog out of many a jam in her long life!
I highly recommend Marley & Me, and now that I've finished his latest book, I suggest picking up both. I'm looking forward to going back through Marley & Me and seeing how the common topics from both books were done in the first.
If you are a dog owner, or if you know one, this book is a good read!
Customer Rating: Summary: most amazing book i have ever read - Marley Comment: great book loved it reccomed to all even children who Are mature enough to read adult books who should instead read the kids version of marley and me. i thought the ending sad but fitting. in all i give the book 5 stars and dont understand those who gave it less
Customer Rating: Summary: Great Book! Comment: Marley & Me is the heartwarming and inspiring story of Marley, a rambunctious Labrador retriever, and the lives of those he touched. From the first impression Marley gave, he does not seem like the kind of a dog a growing family would even consider keeping around. He was loud, clumsy, and obnoxious; he trashed the house, jumped on the guests, and ate everything in site. Basically, he was pretty much the complete opposite of the ideal house pet. But if you looked past that first impression Marley gave, you would see a friendly, non-aggressive dog who was just looking for a good game of tug-o-war, and that just makes this story all the more touching.
As a high school student, this was not a difficult book to read at all. It was a rather easy read, and even though I read this book for a class assignment, it is a book I would pick up to read in my free time. I usually prefer fiction over non fiction, but I really enjoyed this non fiction book. I think that most people would enjoy this book, no matter what genre they preferred, because it is such an easy book to just sit down and get into.
Marley & Me is a classic example of the relationship between man and beast. While the event can seem tedious at times, this true story will inspire you and will stay in your heart forever.
